Ayanna Spurlock-Shackelton has extensive experience in human services, primarily in supporting youth both in foster care and under-served communities.

Before coming to WRI as a project specialist for the Innovations in Family Recruitment project, Ms. Spurlock-Shackelton was a consultant to Casey Family Programs in New York City, managing a project for the New Jersey Department of Family and Youth Services that developed systems to improve education, workforce development, and economic outcomes for youth transitioning out of foster care. She also served as Director of Youth and Community Empowerment for Community Mediation Services in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y.

Ms. Spurlock-Shackelton holds a master’s degree in education from Harvard University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University.
